School Council
At Avishayes, we believe that everyone should have a voice. Two children from each class (from Reception – Year 6) are elected to represent their class at school council meetings. These children provide the voice for the children in their class.
What is the School Council?
- A structured, meeting time for discussion and decision-making
- An opportunity for children to raise issues and concerns
- Parent representatives are invited to attend some meetings
- An opportunity for staff to consult pupils on decisions which directly impact on them
Why have a School Council?
- To help children develop responsible attitudes
- To improve behaviour
- To create a feeling of belonging, encourage listening to others and develop self-confidence
- To improve pupil/teacher relationships
- To give children hands-on experience of curriculum issues including PHSE and Citizenship
How does the School Council work?
- School Council members meet on Monday mornings at 9am. We discuss matters important to our pupils, represent the school and model good behaviour. We love helping our community and raising awareness and money for a range of charity events.
- This academic year, the School Council have advertised and organised a bake sale for Children in Need. We raised just over £300! The School Council members would like to thank the wonderful community of Avishayes Primary School for supporting such an important cause.
- The bake sale was a great opportunity for our School Councillors to practice their sales skills and counting up money, giving back the correct amount of change.
- We are starting 2025 with a healthy eating inspired art competition. Pupils will be able to take part in the competition, in which they design or create an image made of fruit and vegetables!
