Exciting New Teacher-Led Specialist Primary SEND Base Opens at Avishayes
We are absolutely delighted to announce the opening of our new Teacher-Led Specialist Primary SEND Base at Avishayes, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to providing outstanding opportunities for every child within our community.
This new provision has been carefully designed to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) from across the local area, enabling more pupils to have their needs met within their own community while benefiting from the expertise, care and opportunities available at Avishayes.
Places are allocated by the Local Authority for children with specialist SEND needs, predominantly those with Mild or Severe Learning Difficulties relating to Cognition and Learning.
The Specialist Base features a purpose-built learning environment designed to meet a wide range of communication, interaction and learning needs. Alongside a beautiful new classroom, pupils will have access to a dedicated outdoor area that supports sensory regulation, physical development and tailored outdoor learning opportunities. This specialist environment has been created to help children feel safe, confident and ready to learn.
A particularly exciting aspect of the provision is the opportunity for pupils to benefit from both specialist and mainstream education. Where appropriate, children accessing the Specialist Base will participate in mainstream lessons, activities and wider school experiences, helping them build friendships, develop confidence and become fully involved in school life while continuing to receive the specialist support they need.
The benefits of this development extend beyond the pupils who will attend the Base. Additional specialist expertise within the school will create valuable professional learning opportunities for all staff, strengthening inclusive practice throughout Avishayes. Mainstream pupils will also benefit from learning alongside children with a wide range of strengths, needs and experiences, helping to foster empathy, understanding, respect and a strong sense of belonging.
The Governors, Headteacher and staff are tremendously excited about the opportunities this new provision will bring, not only for children with SEND but for the entire school community. We would like to thank parents, staff, governors and the wider community for their support as we continue creating an inclusive, ambitious and nurturing environment where every child is valued, every child belongs and every child has the opportunity to succeed.
We look forward to seeing the Specialist SEND Base become a thriving and integral part of the Avishayes family for many years to come.
